I did NARCOSIS mostly for myself. It is an experimental short film that tries to represents the emotions in link with underwater breath holding. It was for me an occasion to test some features and understand reflexion and refraction.
BUBBLE MAKING
Making to bubble was pretty simple. I used a simple sphere in C4D and spend time texturing it to be mostly transparent. I then used the original footage layers in After Effects to create the reflexion and deformation (from the bump map of the C4D exr).
UNIQUE REFLECTION PROPERTIES
The more distant side of the bubbles acts as a concave mirror. It focusses the scene into an inverted real image (put a screen there and it would be visible) inside the bubble.
The nearer face is on the opposite, a convex mirror. Rays reflected from it appear to come from a virtual, switched image.
I’ll let you google bubbles images for hours, this is a pretty amazing phenomenon.
